The John L. Bryan Chair endowment provides support for one graduate research assistantship (GRA) every year. The support is provided to outstanding graduate students in the UMD Department of Fire Protection Engineering (FPE) and is awarded on a competitive basis.

The support goes to an individual who has already applied, or will be applying to the FPE M.S. program. Advanced identification of a research project and a faculty advisor are welcome, but not required. The Award includes up to 25 standard tuition credits, health benefits and a stipend in the amount of $31,839 for an entire calendar year. However, all mandatory fees must be paid by the student. If additional support is needed, the Department will seek to provide additional funds, possibly through a teaching assistantship or through funds made available by the faculty advisor of the awardee.

To apply, send 1) a one-page statement of purpose explaining your interest in pursuing a master's degree, in particular, your interest in fire research, and 2) a current CV/resume Professor Arnaud Trouvé (atrouve@umd.edu).

The deadline for application is Friday, February 14, 2020. The recipient of the award will be announced by March 1.
