Attend an Information Session to learn about our unique program! UMD offers the only ABET-accredited Undergraduate Program in Fire Protection Engineering (FPE) in the world! FPE students use predictive modeling, innovative building and product design, risk analysis, human behavioral studies and other engineering methods to protect people from fire. The field is experiencing explosive growth in the job market and our graduates are eligible for opportunities in exciting careers all over the world.

Spring 2025 Information Session Dates

Attend on-campus:

  • Monday, February 17 (President’s Day), 1-3PM EST 
  • Saturday, March 1, 1-3PM EST

Attend online:

  • Wednesday, February 5, 5-6PM EST
  • Tuesday, February 25, 7-8PM EST
  • Wednesday, March 26, 5-6PM EST
  • Wednesday, April 30, 7-8PM EST

Who Can Attend?

Information sessions are open to all prospective fire protection engineering students and their families. High school students, community college students, current UMD students, prospective online students and returning learners are encouraged to attend. Information sessions are for students who plan to study on-campus and those interested in Online Courses as well. 

Attending Virtually or On-Campus

Online information sessions are hosted on Zoom and are approximately one hour long. Sessions will include information about:

  • Career paths in fire protection engineering
  • Courses in the program
  • Admissions pathways (presented by an academic advisor)
  • The student experience (presented by a current student)

On-campus information sessions will cover all of the above plus a lab tour of our fire and computer modeling labs and the opportunity to meet a fire protection engineering professor. On-campus information sessions are a full two hours.

Can't Make Any of the Upcoming Information Sessions? 

We invite you to visit the department on a date convenient to you! On-campus department and lab tours are available by appointment with our Student Ambassador Team. Email us to schedule a visit at enfp@umd.edu
