Leonard Ramo and Douglas Fisher Join FPE's Board of Visitors

Leonard Ramo, P.E. and CEO of Telgian Engineering & Consulting, and Douglas Fisher, P.E. and a Principal Fire Protection Engineer at Fisher Engineering, Inc., both joined the University of Maryland (UMD) Department of Fire Protection Engineering (FPE) Board of Visitors (BOV).

Ramo brings significant industry experience to the table. His career spans nearly three decades as a practicing fire protection engineer, consultant, and executive. Ramo is president of Telgian Engineering & Consulting and his professional accreditations include registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) in all 50 U.S. States, the District of Columbia, and select Territories, as well as a P. Eng. in select Canadian Provinces. In addition, Ramo is a Certified Fire Protection Specialist, holds a U.S. Department of Homeland Security CVI certification, and he plays an integral role in international codes and standards development by serving on select National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) committees. Ramo is also a member of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) Foundation Board of Governors and serves on both the SFPE Standards Making Committee on Performance- Based Fire Safety Design and the SFPE Committee on Outreach and Advocacy. Additionally, he is the past president of the Central Gulf Coast Chapter of SFPE and a member of the Society of American Military Engineers.

Similarly, Fisher is a licensed fire protection engineer, an SFPE Fellow and Chair of the SFPE Committee on Professional Qualifications, and a LEED® Accredited Professional in Building Design and Construction with over 30 years of experience in the field. He, too, is a professional fire protection engineer, by exam, and currently licensed in 29 states. Fisher is currently a Principal Fire Protection Engineer in the Georgia office of Fisher Engineering, Inc. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Protection Engineering from UMD and a Master of Business Administration degree from Emory University. Fisher’s experience includes design, review, commissioning and retro-commissioning of active and passive fire protection systems; fire protection system failure analysis; life safety/building code review and analysis; fire hazard analysis and fire modeling.

Additionally, he is a principal member of the NFPA Technical Committees on Space Ports, Commissioning and Integrated Testing, and Flammable and Combustible Liquids (Correlating Committee and Operations), an alternate member of the NFPA Technical Committee on Aircraft Facilities as well as the Chair of the NFPA Technical Committee on Water Tanks. Fisher is also a former president of the SFPE Greater Atlanta Chapter and governor of the SFPE Greater Atlanta Chapter Foundation.

"Both Leonard and Doug bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table," said FPE Chair, Jim Milke. "We look forward to working with them on a broad range of issues from strategic planning to corporate relations, fundraising initiatives to communications strategies."

FPE's BOV is instrumental to the success of the department by helping it gain both recognition and support as a leader in FPE research and education. Its members serve as liaisons to industry and government, as well as other academic institutions.
