Celebration of the Legacy and Life of Professor James G. Quintiere

The Department of Fire Protection Engineering at the University of Maryland (UMD) is planning a special event to celebrate the professional legacy and the life of Professor James (Jim) G. Quintiere. Jim passed away on December 23, 2024. 

The event will be held on Saturday May 3, 2025, on the UMD campus (Forum 1101, A. James Clark Hall, Building 429, University of Maryland, College Park, 20742 MD). It will be an all-day event featuring prepared remarks reminiscing Jim’s association with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), UMD, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the International Association for Fire Safety Science (IAFSS); the program will also include stories about Jim as a teacher, an advisor and a mentor, about Jim’s involvement with the fire investigation community, and about Jim’s private life.

Colleagues, former students, family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance, share stories, and honor Jim’s lasting contributions to the field of fire protection engineering and to our lives.
