Class of 2025
Hometown: Rockville, MD
High School: Academy of the Holy Cross

What is your favorite thing about FPE?

Being able to help protect people through engineering and science.

Why did you choose FPE over other STEM majors?

I loved being able to have smaller class sizes and personal connections with the people in my major. And while all engineering disciplines help others, I liked how you can see the direct correlation in fire protection.

What do you value most about the Department and your time with FPE?

The connections I’ve made. After I graduate from Maryland I would not hesitate to reach out to any of my classmates or professors for professional advice.

How else are you involved in the campus, either in or outside the Department?

I am a member of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers UMD chapter. I am also a Bible study leader for the Catholic Student center on campus and an officer for the concrete canoe club on campus, where we build and race canoes out of concrete against other schools.

When you’re not in class, or serving the Department, where can you be found?

At Maryland games! I am a HUGE fan of all Maryland athletics and often go to 1-2 games a week. I am also a big country music fan and go to many concerts throughout the semester.

What is the best thing about UMD?

Being part of a big campus! So many opportunities to go to sporting events, join different clubs, watch plays, and so much more!

Any last words for prospective students?

Go to office hours and remember to keep your schedule balanced! Sign up for the things you want to try but don’t be afraid to take a step back so you still have a social life.
