Class of 2024
Hometown: Pocatello, ID
What is your favorite thing about FPE?
My favorite thing about FPE is the small size of the major. It has really allowed me to form relationships with my professors and feel confident when I want to ask them questions about any topic related to FPE.
Why did you choose FPE over other STEM majors?
I chose FPE over other STEM majors because I did not feel pigeonholed by the opportunities within FPE. There are so many different paths a fire protection engineer can take, from consulting to researching fire in space.
What do you value most about the Department and your time with FPE?
I greatly value the amount of support the FPE department provides when furthering education and career. I really appreciate how helpful all the faculty are and how willing they are to answer questions.
How else are you involved in the campus, either in or outside the Department?
On campus I am involved with the Catholic Student Center and many activities with them. I was also part of the Science and Global Change College Park Scholars Program. Additionally, I am involved with research in the department with the Fire Propagation Apparatus.
When you’re not in class, or serving the Department, where can you be found?
When I am not in class I can be found in my apartment or at the diner!
What is the best thing about UMD?
The best thing about UMD is the trees in the fall and in the spring, they change colors and bloom very vibrantly. The squirrels are also one of my favorite things, I love seeing them running around and sitting in funny positions.
Any last words for prospective students?
To prospective students, don’t be afraid to ask questions and take your time.
