What is your favorite thing about FPE?
My favorite thing about FPE is that our design and engineering work directly goes to the purpose of saving lives.
Why did you choose FPE over other STEM majors?
I chose FPE over other options in the Clark school because of the dynamic nature of the field. There is always a new way to envision the threat of fire or explosions, and we always will visualize new ways to combat that for the sake of our safety and for science.
What do you value most about the Department and your time with FPE?
I really value the willingness of our alumni to always come back and present to the students about exciting new expansions in the field, and to recruit people into jobs.
How else are you involved in the campus, either in or outside the Department?
I am involved in a multitude of things around campus including the Club Rugby Team, Meor, and Society of Fire Protection Engineers.
When you’re not in class, or serving the Department, where can you be found?
When I'm not in class, or serving the Department, I can be found in the gym (I try to workout four days a week), in the lounge doing my homework with FPE friends, out with the rugby team, or at my apartment catching a nap :).
What is the best thing about UMD?
The best thing about UMD is that we are a BIG10 school with all the amenities that come with that, sports, research grants, and name recognition, but our campus is not in the middle of nowhere, we are just outside Washington DC, and have access to Baltimore as well. A lot goes on around us, making campus life and outside experiences compatible.
Any last words for prospective students?
My tips for a prospective student would be to apply to many different types of scholarships, you never know what you could win and receive good help. Also, never turn down an opportunity to do something fun in college to go sit in your room instead!
