Implemented during the 2017/2018 academic year, the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) Firefighter Safety Research Institute (FSRI) Fellowship supports a graduate research assistant within the University of Maryland (UMD) Department of Fire Protection Engineering (FPE). The Fellowship provides a variable amount towards the Fellow's research, which will be renewed each semester provided the Fellow remains in good academic standing. The research activity will involve a study of interest to the UL FSRI, much of it being conducted in Columbia, Maryland. The combination of fire protection engineering and fire service experience is vital to fulfilling the FSRI mission of increasing firefighter knowledge to reduce injuries and deaths in the fire service and in the communities served.
