Graduate Course Descriptions (On Campus Only)

The Department of Fire Protection Engineering's combined Bachelor of Science/Master of Science and Bachelor of Science / Master of Engineering programs are not the same. Each program has its own requirements and options. For more information, see our M.S. vs. M.Eng page.

Students enrolled in the Department of Fire Protection and/or Mechanical Engineering's (FPE) B.S. programs at the University of Maryland may apply to the Combined Bachelor of Science / Master of Science program in Fire Protection Engineering.  Students enrolled in the Department of Fire Protection Engineering may apply to the Combined Bachelor of Science / Master of Engineering program as well.  Both program opportunities require a GPA of 3.50 or higher and 90 or more degree credits. These Combined Programs allow students to complete both the bachelor's and master's degrees in approximately five to five and a half years.

In the first step, students should meet with the Fire Protection Engineering advisor the first term of their junior year to discuss program application and procedural forms. All forms should be submitted no later than one week before the first meeting of the student’s first 600+ class.

In the second step, students must apply to the UMD graduate schoolDeadlines for applying to the FPE graduate program may be found on the University of Maryland Graduate School website.
