Prof. Marshall receives prestigious NSF CAREER Award

Prof. André Marshall of the Department of Fire Protection Engineering received an NSF CAREER Award for his proposal entitled "Exploring Jet Fragmentation and Atomization for Combustion and Fire Suppression Systems". In this cross-cutting research program, Prof. Marshall seeks to characterize the details of the atomization process to advance modeling capabilities for fire suppression and gas turbine combustion systems. Sprays are used extensively in these applications; however physical relationships need to be established between the injector geometry, injection conditions and the resulting spray before computer models can be reliably used for the development and analysis of these multi-phase systems.
